Sequences define the order of tools and actions an agent will use to complete its task in a workflow. Each sequence step represents a tool action, and users can customize the default instructions to ensure the agent performs exactly as needed.

What Are Sequences?

In Victoria AI, Sequences are a series of steps that guide an agent on how to complete its assigned task. Each step in a sequence represents a tool and an action the agent should use.

Sequences are essential for breaking down complex tasks into clear, actionable steps that the agent can execute in order.

Adding Sequence Steps

When configuring an agent in your workflow, you can define a sequence by clicking "Add Sequence Step."

Upon clicking this, you'll see a list of tools that are available to the agent based on your connected integrations. You can select the tools that the agent should use to accomplish the task.

Example:

  • Step 1: Notion → Retrieve page content
  • Step 2: Slack → Send message with retrieved content

Customizing Instructions for Each Step

After adding a sequence step, the agent will automatically populate default brief instructions for how to use the selected tool. These instructions are used as guidance for the agent to execute the tool action.

You can (and should) customize these instructions to:

  • Provide more detailed guidance.
  • Add specific data or variables from earlier in the workflow.
  • Give examples of the desired output.

This level of customization helps ensure the agent performs the action exactly as you intend.

Example customization:

  • Default: "Create an Asana task"
  • Custom: "Create an Asana task with a detailed description, always dated for 1 week after creation, and assigned to the project owner"

Why Use Sequences?

Sequences make it easy to:

  • Define multi-step processes inside an agent.
  • Control the flow and logic of tasks.
  • Provide clear and precise instructions for each tool the agent will use.

By thoughtfully designing your sequences, you empower agents to handle complex workflows while maintaining flexibility and precision.
